Identity: An Exploration Through Mindfulness, Meditation + Breathwork
Join us August 22 from 6:00 – 8:00pm for our event with Liana Naima and Minka Brooklyn.
Each month we bring together compassionate wellness practitioners for an evening of mindfulness and conversation. In August, we are starting a new series titled Identity, to explore how we understand and express ourselves through the physical body. The first event in this series is titled ‘Identity: An Exploration Through Mindfulness, Meditation + Breathwork’ and takes place Wednesday August 22 at Minka Brooklyn. We’d love for you to join us. All you need is an interest in learning more about your identity and comfortable clothes; we’ll provide the rest.
Our guest practitioner for the event will be Liana Naima. She’ll guide us in an exploration of our relationship with our body through a breathwork and meditation practice. There will be time for us to share in conversation answering questions like:
- How do you feel in your body?
- What is your relationship with your emotions?
- How do you communicate with your body through food, stillness, movement, and pleasure?
- How has your body shaped your identity?
Our partners for the event
Mast Brothers is providing mini chocolates for us to enjoy after the breathwork meditation.
You can reserve your spot on Minka Brooklyn’s website. Visit their workshop page and select August 22 to find our event.
About Breathwork Meditation
The breath is a tool to awaken us to the sacredness of life. Through the breath we can tap into transcendent states, self-heal from various internal disturbances, and come back to our core essence.
Breathwork is an active meditation used to move and release stagnant energy. The breath helps us to recognize where we are holding on energetically to past emotional and mental disturbances. Once we recognize where we are holding on to the past, the breath can be used to pierce through that tension to allow us to connect with a higher energetic state. Breathwork brings to light the very aliveness of our body and how subtle energy is or is not flowing throughout our vessel. The practice of deep, conscious breathing acts as purification of the mind and body for subtle energy to move more freely, and for you to recognize your power as your own healer. Breathwork stirs up past emotional experiences for the mind-body to heal and to lighten the energetic load we are all carrying.
This meditation will focus on three breath work patterns you can utilize in your personal practice. We’ll begin the meditation with the cleansing breath to calm our minds, delve into vocal toning with belly breathing, and then allow the journey to unfold individually with a more rapid breathwork pattern to bring to light any blockages for transmutation.
About Liana Naima
“Liana’s energy has the power of a tsunami, but the feeling of being lovingly carried by the current back to shore. She is gentle, but giant. Her capacity to hold space for people is incredibly deep, as is her wisdom. My favorite thing about her is the pure joy that comes at the end of a session with her, much like the sun rising at dawn and breaking through the dark night sky, it is certain.” – Laurel Flynn, Tarot Reader
Liana is a rainforest vine that is rooted in the Earth and uses trees to climb to the light. She acts as a vine for spirit guides and loving ancestors to work through her to help others come into alignment with a higher energetic expression. As a spiritual guide, she is a certified White Light Reiki Expert practitioner. Liana utilizes breath work, voice alchemy, cacao, and guided meditation in her practice to silence the mind and induce a transcendent state. Her work has been featured in Essence Magazine, Sheen Magazine, Yahoo Lifestyle, and Black Girl in OM.
