Creating safe(r) spaces

in a racialized wellness world

I met Eric Mosley in August 2019. He was participating in the Three Sisters 200 hour yoga teacher training and I was leading a module on holding space. We exchanged contact information with plans to get in touch when he finished the training. After he received his yoga certification, he joined the Setu yoga teacher directory and we started collaborating.

Eric was in a series of Setu Studio filmed yoga classes, he MC’d a Setu event at Industry City for me when I had the flu, he helped me pilot the yoga classes at Selina Hotel, and led a session for Setu’s virtual retreat Healing Together. Over the Summer we built a partnership with The Sill, hosted a panel for Pride, a panel for Chelsea Piers and collaborated with lululemon. As you can imagine, I love working with Eric and am super excited about our new project.

Over the last four months, we’ve been digging deep within ourselves to build, refine and create a workshop that gives wellness practitioners a plan for how to reduce racialized harm and equips them with the resources to continue the lifelong work.

Today we are launching our workshop Creating Safe(r) Space: in a racialized wellness world.

We are approaching the workshop from many sides to create a well rounded immersive experience for attendees. Eric and I bring both researched and lived experiences with anti-racism, incorporate yogic principles, and integrate body & breath practices to cultivate a culture of community and connection. There will be moments of group sharing, moments of deep learning and time for imagining and creating a plan for stepping into the future with fortitude. Our framework meets the nuanced needs of different groups of people.

If you are a wellness practitioner, business owner, leader, or enthusiast this workshop is for you. Our philosophy stems from the Yamas*, is influenced by workshops, books and trainings we’ve taken with BIPOC and LGTBQ teachers and combines our personal wisdom.

There are two different dates for the workshop. You can choose either Thursday, November 19 at 6pm ET or Saturday, November 21 at 1pm ET. Both are two hours long. Price is sliding scale based on socioeconomic status.

You can sign up on Eventbrite

I hope you will join us! If you have any questions, contact me.
